class built ecoregion database

Day 1:
  a) Have students color maps of Saskatchewan Biomes and Saskatchewan Ecoregions
  b) Give out stat sheets on Annual Precipitation and Temperature for the Ecoregions
  c) Have students colour code Ecoregions maps using the stat sheets

Day 2:
  a) Sample presentation of my Ecoregion
  b) Go through the marking scheme and expectations for Ecoregion presentations
  c) Assign Ecoregions to groups of 2-3 students

Day 3 & 4:
  a) Ecoregions presentation preparation and research

Day 5:
  a) Ecoregions presentations

Day 6:
  a) Practice as a field biologist, fish species of Saskatchewan (click here for reference sheet)
  b) On the back side of the fish sheet is the bonus question sheet. The answers are hidden in the reference sheet.

Day 7:
  a) Present my own Saskatchewan mammal, insect, and plant to the class
  b) Assign "Saskatchewan Mammal, Insect, and Plant" research project
  c) Go over the information that will be required and the breakdown of marks for the project
  d) Begin research of the selected inhabitants we share land with in Saskatchewan

Day 8 & 9:
  a)  Research and preparation for the "SASK M, I & P" project
 
Day 10 & 11:
  a) Presentation of the "SASK M, I, & P" project
  b) Give OH notes on soil usage, creation, maintenance, and human impact

Day 12:
  a) Discussion on the importance soil has had on the development of man and his society
  b) Notes from the OH related to the topic

Day 13:
  a) Use a dichotomous key to identify coniferous trees found in our neighborhood (click here for dichotomous key)
  b) Study sheet assigned and students required to successfully identify the sample species

Day 14:
  a) Review -- practice test
  b) Take up test and discuss expectations

Day 15: Unit Test


** if time permits "The Chocolate Chip Cookie Mine" activity could be added, look at the effect mining practices have on the land.
