  c) Synthetics handout, start the first half of the exercise

Day 2:
  a) Finish synthetics handout
  b) Hand out "white blood of the forest" booklet
  c) Read pp 133-135 in class together

Day 3,4 & 5
  a) "white blood of the forest" quiz
  b) correct quiz together in class
  c) assign next reading assignment, read together in class

Day 6:
  a) Write final "white blood of the forest" quiz
  b) Correct the quiz together in class
  c) Start the "Nature of Things, Advanced Material World"

Day 7:
  a) Finish "Nature of Things" video
  b) Correct the "Nature of Things" sheet together
  c) Daily examples of chemical change overhead
  d) Preview the lab on synthesizing an ester, create purpose and hypothesis

Day 8:
  a) Synthesize and ester lab
  b) Remainder of the period spent on lab write-up      

Day 9:
  a) Acids and bases overhead
  b) Read over the laboratory
  c) Create purpose and hypothesis
  d) Boil the cabbage and make the indicator

Day 10:
  a) Conduct acid/bases lab, test the substances
  b) Spend the remainder of the class producing the lab write-up

Day 11 (optional):
  a) Food additives study
  b) Glass and plastic bottle of lemonade are studied for ingredients
  c) Assign different additives and give project to students

Day 12 (optional):
  a) Library time to look at the additives found in products that we eat;
    What is a 'natural additive,' what is 'natural coloring," what is MSG...and why are they used.

Day 13:
  a) How do you know a chemical reaction has taken place overhead
  b) Reactants and products overhead
  c) How do we promote a chemical reaction overhead
  d) Preview reaction rates lab, create purpose and hypothesis

Day 14:
  a) Perform reaction rates lab
  b) Write up the lab
  c) Work on unit review

Day 15:
  Unit Test

* If time permits, a study on flooring as outlined in extra activities may be implemented (2 days)
