Science Fair - Innovation

An innovation is the use of a new technology, item, or process to change what goods and services are provided, the way they are produced, or the way they are distributed. In other words, your project would have you build something and it would either:

-  Allow people to do something they have never done before.
       -  Allow people to do something they already do, but in a different way.

     -  Find a new way to make a current product.
       -  Create something new that does the same job as something that is currently being used.
       -  Create a new way of completing a task that is more efficient.

Examples include:

      - the automated teller – extended accessibility and security over the human bank teller.
      - microwave – faster and uses less energy than the stove.
      - the stone wheel – increased peoples ability to move objects.
      - the rubber wheel – decreased the amount of work to move objects, increased comfort.
      - the mobile phone – decreases amount of cable, less breakages, increased accessibility.

If you choose an innovation, you must answer the following questions and submit them to Mr. Sklar

              a) How is this an improvement over old technology?

  b) What materials are needed? How will it be assembled? Will you need assistance and who will assist you?

              c) What is the science behind the innovation?

              d) How will society benefit from this innovation?

              e) Which topic in science 10 does this relate to and how?
