Chem 30
Outline

1. Reaction Kinetics
What can we do to promote or inhibit a chemical reaction. What drives chemical reactions?
2. Energy Changes in Chemical Reactions
How do we determine a combination of chemicals will react? Introduce the concept of Enthalpy, Entropy, Free
Energy, and the system in equilibrium.
3. Equilibrium
Explore methods to promote the reactant or product side of a system in equilibrium. Calculation of the amount
of products and reactants at equilibrium given initial values.
4. Solutions and Solubility
Determination of whether a solid will dissolve through use of the solubility chart and/or equilibrium calculations.
5. Acid-Base Equilibrium
Calculation of pH strength through equilibrium calculations. Study differences between weak acids/bases, and
  those which are considered strong.
6. Oxidation and Reduction
A nice way to finish off the semester as it is the easiest topic we will cover. Who has lost electrons, who has
gained through the LEO GER trick. http://www.dlt.ncssm.edu/TIGER/Flash/Stoich/SingleDisp_Reaction-MetalToMetal.html
