Day 7 Proton/Electron Calculations then Research Time for the
Atomic Theory Presentation:
-Enforce the idea that protons are very stable
-Create scenarios emphasizing the outcome given an imbalance between the
number of protons and electrons
-Assign "Proton/Electron/Charge Calculations"

Proton/Electron Calculations
Quiz the
students on what they recall from day 6. "What is the charge on a
neutron? What is the charge of a proton? What is the charge of an
electron?" Use these questions to bring in new learning. Ask "What is
the charge on an atom is the number of protons equals the number of
electrons? What happens if a neutral atom gains an electron? Loses an
electron?" Ask the students a trick question like "What happens if an
atom loses a proton?" After reminding them that protons never change,
work through the first four questions on the assignment. Assign the rest
of the worksheet for homework.
