Re: Aaron Sklar

I have known Aaron Sklar for two years during which time he was enrolled in the Faculty of Education as a chemistry major in our B.Ed degree program. I have instructed him in three science methods classes. Aaron has demonstrated a strong interest in teaching chemistry and general science to secondary students and, I think, will develop into an excellent teacher as he gains experience. I rate him as very good to excellent in comparison with many other interns in my experience.

"I rate him as very good to excellent in comparison with many other interns..."

"...well organized and had his lessons fully prepared."

I have observed his classroom teaching on several occasions during his pre-internship and internship. On each of those occasions Aaron was well organized and had his lessons fully prepared. He has a good knowledge base in chemistry, which was demonstrated in his teaching and in his participation in my science education classes. During his internship I was impressed with his ability to bring in practical items from home and use them as illustrations of electricity for grade nine students.

Aaron Sklar interned at Campbell Collegiate in Regina with Colin Beveridge. while there he taught Chemistry 20 and 30, and Science 9 and 10 classes. At the University of Regina his science methods classes focused on hands-on instructional strategies and the STSE approach to teaching science which is consistent with Saskatchewan science curricula. As well considerable time was spent developing alternative forms of assessment. He understands the need for secondary students to experience scientific phenomena first hand through activities and demonstrations, and the need to provide students with means other than tests to demonstrate their knowledge.

Aaron has a fine sense of humor and is willing to participate in various activities within the school. He works well with others and interacts appropriately with colleagues and students. His Internship Placement Profile indicates no areas of weakness. Mr. Sklar has the potential to be an excellent teacher in secondary schools and would be a fine addition to any secondary school staff. I do not hesitate to recommend him for a teaching position in secondary schools and would have been pleased to have him as a colleague when I taught in high school.

"...Internship Placement Profile indicates no areas of weakness."
