To Whom It May Concern:

Re: Aaron Sklar

I am very pleased to provide a very positive personal and professional reference for Aaron Sklar, a young teacher who was hired to fill a temporary position in Estevan Comprehensive School for the period of January to June 2002. At that time I was principal of ECS, and felt fortunate to be able to retain his services for the next school year.

At Estevan Comprehensive Aaron taught a variety of Math and Science courses to students in Grades 9, 10 and 11. He also taught ET9, or Exploring Technology, a Practical and Applied Arts survey course that introduced Grade 9 students to the impact technology has on our everyday lives.

Aaron’s work with students displayed key indicators of effective teaching. He was well prepared, he used a variety of strategies that took different learning styles into account, and he modeled enthusiasm for the classes he taught. This combination of preparation, variety and enthusiasm provided a positive learning environment for his students and they completed a wide range of creative projects and activities. On the other side of this creative coin Aaron’s willingness to try new approaches lead him towards becoming a reflective practitioner. If something he had planned did not work the way he had hoped, he was always eager to find out why, or to think of ways in which his plans could be modified or improved. As a result, he was never afraid to ask questions of other teachers or administration, to synthesize the information he received and to adapt it to his classes.

"...provided a positive learning environment for his students and they completed a wide range of creative projects and activities."

"...Aaron was a very active staff member and made a significant contribution to the life of the school"

Outside of the course work he devised for his students Aaron was a very active staff member and made a significant contribution to the life of the school. His extra-curricular involvement ranged from helping coach the Senior Boys Soccer Team, to fundraising activities for the Student Council, taking part in Staff “Talent” Shows for the student body, and chaperoning the ECS Band when it traveled to competitions and performances across the country. Although not directly a school project, of particular note is the care, and compassion Aaron displayed in arranging a benefit concert by Walter Ostanek and his band for the son of a staff member. Proceeds from this event were significant and they were directed towards a three year old with leukemia. This level of concern typifies Aaron and his approach to people.

I would have liked to have been able to keep Aaron at Estevan Comprehensive, but other commitments saw him leave. Given the opportunity, I would have no hesitation in offering him a teaching position in any of the schools for which I am currently responsible. Similarly, I would have no hesitation in recommending Aaron Sklar to you as a teacher and a person who is most worthy of your every consideration.

"I would have no hesitation in offering him (Aaron) a teaching position."

Sincerely,

C. Maurice Jago
