To Whom It May Concern: Re: Aaron Sklar |
||
|
Aaron Sklar was a colleague at the Estevan
Comprehensive School from January 2002 until June 2003. During his short
time in Estevan, he made a lasting impression on our school due to his
innovative teaching methods, his involvement in extracurricular activities
and his willingness to help and support other staff members. |

Aaron's teaching assignment was concentrated in the areas of junior science and math with some experience at the senior math and science level. The courses Aaron taught varied greatly in terms of student behavior and academic ability. In all of the classes he taught Aaron was able to adapt his approach and use innovative methods to motivate and engage his students. One example of his approach was a stewardship project in which the students redesigned and completed a renovation of an area outside of the front entrance of the school. A second example was an ecology project in which students took digital pictures of local habitat and wildlife and used these to build a website. In both of these cases the students were excited to produce a meaningful product and in turn were engaged in a meaningful learning experience. Aaron also made effective use of technology to find current and intriguing supplements to his lessons. His interesting approach and positive rapport with the students allowed him to have a well managed classroom with few discipline problems. |

"...person who could be relied upon to willing help with just about anything..." |
Aaron made a significant contribution to the extracurricular program at ECS. He was my assistant coach for the senior boy's soccer team. His energy and enthusiasm made him an instant hit with the players. His dedication and skill made him an asset to the team and myself. Aaron also made a valuable contribution to other activities including the SRC Spring Supper and the floor hockey league. Aaron was a person who could be relied upon to willingly help with just about anything in the school. |

Aaron used his abilities to impact the school and community in other positive ways. In particular, his musical abilities made him a hit at talent shows and resulted in him being asked to judge the local Estevan Idol competition at the fair. Aaron also used his knowledge in this area to organize a tremendously successful fundraiser for a staff member whose son was diagnosed with leukemia. It is this, along with the previously mentioned examples, which illustrate Aaron's character and why we were disappointed that Aaron left Estevan to pursue other opportunities. |
"...illustrate Aaron's character and why we were disappointed that Aaron left Estevan..." |
